25th Anniversary
Celebration
On
Sunday, November 23, 1997, 25 years after Sisterhood opened in Westwood,
several hundred women attended a spectacular event at the Skirball Cultural
Center in Los Angeles to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the bookstore.
The star-studded program line-up included Gloria Steinem, bell hooks,
Maxine Waters, Diane Lindsay, Jackie Goldberg, Emily Levine, Terry Wolverton,
Sheila Kuehl, Robin Tyler, Eloise Klein Healy, Michelle Serros, and
the wims.

‘still here’ Committee Member Quotes
“Sisterhood Bookstore has been an ongoing
resource for new creativity, and personal and professional growth,
and has never failed to offer support to me, as a feminist and psychotherapist,
in the ongoing struggle against sexism and patriarchy!”
Linda Levinson
“I wish the whole world operated like Sisterhood
--with good feminist politics; small friendly atmosphere; dedication
to women and the women’s ‘community’; and the opportunity
to partake of the creativity of thousands of women, through their
stories and ideas.” Irene Wolt
"Sisterhood has always welcomed me to read from
my latest writing project, and has opened its doors to my students,
my colleagues, and the writers in the anthologies I've edited. I know
whenever I read there that the audience will be receptive and informed;
they come because they care about women’s words and ideas. Sisterhood
has supported me since the beginning.” Terry Wolverton
